Moscow

Rodina: St Basil's Moscow is the capital of the Russian Federation and has a population of around 10 million people. The city dates back to 1147 when it was founded by the Russia prince Yury Dolgoruky although it didn’t become the capital until 1328. In 1713, Peter the Great move the capital to the city of St Petersburg where it remained until 1918 and it was made the capital of the Soviet Union.

The first impression you may have of Moscow is of a chaotic city, with traffic jams even on their wide avenues. It is a city of contrasts as it boasts the most billionaires of any other city in the world but also sees many of it’s citizens live in crumbling buildings. This divide of wealth is evident where ever you look in the city.

As you would expect from any city of 10 million people, there is so much to see and do so you can be sure whatever your reason for visiting Moscow, you are sure not to leave disappointed.

Golden Ring

Rodina: Golden Ring The Golden Ring is a ring of cities situated to the North East of Moscow whose history dates back over 1,000 years. There is some dispute as to the names of all the cities included in the Golden Ring but all lists usually include Sergiyev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, Rostov Velikiy, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Gus-Khrustalny, Suzdal, Vladimir, Rybinsk, Uglich, and Alexandrov.

These enchanting towns are located along the old Middle Age trades routes between Russia’s two centres of civilisation; Kiev in the South and Novgorod in the North. The nearby Volga River meant prosperity through trade and today these cities of the Golden Ring have been called “open air museums” with classic Russian architecture from the 12th – 18th centuries including kremlins (forts) and places of worship.
