This tour has been created as the simplest way to enjoy Russia’s Imperial capital on your own but including many facilities that are difficult to organize independently. The basic package offers great value for money and includes direct flights with British Airways; 5 nights accommodation (B&B) based on twin occupancy in either budget 3* or good quality 4* hotels; arrival and departure transfers; and a half day guided city your. You can upgrade your tour with any of our excursions (call for details). As this is a group tour, it is not possible to select an alternative hotel but you can upgrade to a superior room for added comfort and convenience. Please note that St Petersburg is especially enjoyable in June during the ‘Stars of the White Nights’ festival, celebrating the opera, ballet and classical music of Russia. The entire city comes alive with performances in theatres, parks and streets. The ‘White Nights’ are a natural phenomenon unique to this Northern area when the night becomes indistinguishable from dat, so the city doesn’t even need to turn the street lights on at all !! Day 1: Arrival in St Petersburg. Following our direct flight with British Airways, you will be at the airport by our representative who will escort you to your hotel. The evening is free. Why not take a stroll along the city’s main shopping avenue, Nevsky Prospekt? Day 2: Your experienced guide will introduce you to some of St Petersburg’s highlights. This half-day tour allows you to get your bearings and whet your appetite for further exploration. In the evening, there is an optional performance at the Mariinsky theatre, which is fast becoming the most important ballet and opera house in Russia. Don’t miss the chance to see it with your own eyes! Day 3: Full-day guided tour to Pushkin (Tsarskoe Selo), the town made famous by Catherine’s Palace. Here you will find a jewel of the Russia Baroque style: the breathtaking Grand Ballroom, the Hall of Lights and the Amber room, considered to be one of the modern wonders of the world. Day 4: Trip to Petrodvorets to view Peter the Great’s Summer Palace and gardens. The formal gardens are dominated by 137 extravagant fountains. Day 5: Finish your St Petersburg holiday in style with a visit to the awesome Hermitage museum. Within its wall, over 3 million works of art are just waiting to be discovered. Afternoon is free to explore as you wish. Day 6: Say goodbye to the city in the morning. Later, your guide will transfer you to the airport for your afternoon flight back to the UK.
